Place your bets

It will be a shame to see John H replaced as Deputy Leader and leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the City Council, but we'll keep a close eye on him as his career at Westminster develops/nosedives (delete as appropriate).

So, the business of the week is deciding who will replace him at the top of the heap of Birmingham Liberal Democrats. Who will take that crown? We'll know at the end of the week, apparently.

Early contestants for this prize are apparently Paul Tilsley and Mick Wilkes, who seems to believe that the Freedom of Information Act is too high a price to pay for access to information. Oddly, some of the biggest users of the FOIA are Liberal Democrat campaigners.

Rumours suggest that Sue Anderson might also throw her hat into the ring, but all will be revealed in due course. The next big question will be - will the Tory/LD coalition survive this?

What???? You think one of these disparate bunch of nobodies will turn down that additional special responsibility allowance they would get in exchange for carrying Whitby's brief case? Not a prayer.... although, given the almost total lack of activity by the coalition, the Lib Dems will, in time honoured style, be seeking to break the coalition before next Spring to avoid having to go to the electorate as 'little tories'.

I know - the whiff of power will reach their noses and they'll take up their customary position as Whitby's poodles.

Somehow, I don't think that we'll let the electorate forget that the Liberal Democrats sold out to the Tories when the 2006 elections roll round.
