Be positive

Antonia Bance discovers that loose talk generates column inches - damn these journalists and their printing presses - but her thinking's as sound as ever
We're the progressive option. We're the 'Labour party'. We're going to end child poverty by 2020, so let's go out there and tell the country why we're going to do it, how we're going to do it, how it's going to make a difference ... Let's end some pensioner poverty as well ... That's what it's all about. That's why the Labour party was founded. So let's stop being so bloody timid.

Bravo Antonia for telling the truth and for being such a labour stalwart. Antonia Bance does not waver in her love for Labour. But is her admiration for Labour policies and personalities coming in the way of her role as Oxfam's deputy director for its UK region and policy and campaigns manager for UK poverty issues? Now that Antonia is a cabinet member on the Oxford city council, shouldn't Oxfam be asking her to resign. I thought advoccay charities had to guard against bringing party politics into their work. Something to ponder one...but what the hell, Bance is an eccentric soul...
